5 Tips to Work from Home Effectively

To work from home effectively amidst the Coronavirus Outbreak is one of the challenges most of us are currently facing. This is because the walls of our home used to be a sanctuary from the outside world, but now, where do we go after a long day of working…. from home?

Since the start of the Coronavirus outbreak, the government has implemented strict quarantine guidelines, including the cancellation of classes, the closing of businesses, and the suspension of work.

Of course, business operations had to continue in order for the economy to thrive. This resulted in the continuation of work from remote locations, which includes one’s home.

The question remains – how can you stay motivated and work from home effectively?

Set up a designated workspace at home

Designating a specific place where you will only do work-related tasks is the first step to working from home effectively.

This is because whenever you are in this space, your brain will automatically associate it with work. Avoid working on your bed because your body has associated this as a place of rest and relaxation.

Doing so would not only render you unproductive but may also cause back problems due to improper posture when working.

Steer away from distractions

Another common problem of those who opt to work from home is giving in to unnecessary distractions. Whenever you are working, make sure the television is turned off and that your phone is far from you.

Pausing your work every 5 minutes to reply to a message will delay the tasks you need to accomplish. Also, ensure your table faces either the window or the wall.

This is to ensure that you won’t be tempted by the sight of your bed or your television screen.

Develop a good sleeping pattern

Always sleep and wake up at the same time. Avoid changing your sleeping pattern so as not to confuse your bodily system.

Don’t binge-watch your favorite shows on work nights so you can get up and work productively the next morning. Also, avoid sleeping in the afternoon because this disrupts your sleeping pattern.

Work on the tasks you have to accomplish and finish them before you relax instead of doing them the other way around.

Take breaks

In order for you to be productive and work from home effectively, you need to take those much-needed breaks. Have a 15-minute break every 1 hour of working straight.

Use this time to brew a cup of coffee or to answer your messages. You may also walk around your house and stretch your muscles.

This helps you stay productive instead of working for 5 hours straight without any breaks in between.

Plan your day

Before you go to bed every night, make sure to take time and plan the day ahead. This ensures that you won’t miss any deadlines or forget any virtual meetings.

You can also include your planned daily chores and the recreational things you will be doing after work. Planning the day ahead is one of the ways you can stay on track and boost your productivity.
